News for the Week

National Library Week is April 7-13, 2019
Brandi and Aaron have lots of fun publicity and things to share with the public about our value to the community. Once again, we'll do Food for Fines. For each non-perishable food item donated, patrons will receive $1.00 off their fines. Food collected will go to the Shalom Center Food Pantry.

Shredding trucks will park at NS and SW tomorrow for the community to bring in their documents. The event is sponsored by the city and is free to the public. Each person is limited to 5 boxes of materials.

Don't forget to join us for the Grand Finale of the 2019 Big Read on Monday evening, 7pm, St. Mark's church. We will welcome Luis Alberto Urrea, author of this year's selection, Into the Beautiful North. You'll have a chance to meet the author, ask him questions about his wonderful book, the writing life, or his next book. Luis is known for his vivacious personality. We expect a very engaging and lively discussion! Hope to see you there!

Welcome to Antoinette Campbell, our newest Library Board member. Antoinette and I first met as we worked together on the Kenosha Parks Alliance. Antoinette is a Restorative Justice Coordinator for KUSD, and a pastor at the Greater Mt. Hebron Church of God in Christ. Her church leads many food distributions in the Lincoln Park neighborhood and organizes the annual backpack giveaway to children in need. We are thrilled to have her join our board!

Don't forget to vote on Tuesday April 2!

Good luck to our spelling bee team as they defend our city title this Friday evening at the Stella Hotel. We'll be there to cheer you on in our flapper dresses!

This week's Bright Spot Award goes to all staff who helped with this year's Big Read! For all of you who carved time out of your busy day to introduce a program, distribute books, attend a book discussion, plan, or promote the program, THANK YOU! It takes a team of enthusiastic people to pull off an event of this proportion, and once again KPL shines.

Have a wonderful (albeit cold) weekend, everyone!
Barb
