News for the week

The Friends of the Library Bookstore in the SW lobby is coming together, thanks to our infinitely talented Maintenance team! Look for a grand opening during the summer book sale.

Thanks to Elkid for writing a successful application to fund a high school student or college freshman for the summer as an Inclusive Intern. We will recruit a young person who represents the diversity of our community and who is interested in a career in libraries to work alongside us all summer. This paid position will be funded through PLA.

The Common Council approved our contract with Harboe Architects to study the Simmons library building and write an Historic Structure Report. That document will provide a plan for restoring the building to its glory and maintaining it in the future. Each step will include a price tag so we can pursue private partnerships. The study will include a plan to restore the park to its original glory. The Wisconsin Historical Society is helping guide the project. Look for the final report around the first of next year.

Congratulations to Jennifer and her stellar team on a grand kickoff of the 2019 Big Read! What a magical opening event! The quality of programming is breathtaking!

I was able to get a sneak peek into the Stella Hotel as it prepares for its April 1 opening. Hope you can join us for the Literacy Council's spelling bee that evening. The theme is the Great Gatsby, which means we get to recycle our flapper dresses from the last Foundation gala. Looking forward to watching KPL win the spelling bee once again! This year our spelling dynamos include Amy Klein, Heather Thompson, Jennifer Meixelsperger, Jake Bowen and Katie Meeker (alternate)
Thank you, brilliant KPLers!

The next Library Board meeting in scheduled for Thursday, March 14th at 5:30 at SW. Note the day change- we normally meet the second Tuesday of the month.

Daylight Savings Time switch happens on Sunday March 10th! Let's spring forward!!

I'm retreating to the Louisiana heat for a few days to kiss grand babies. I'll be out until Thursday March 14th but I'm always available by phone. (262-221-5414) In my absence, Rob is in charge.
I'll bring back some warm air.
Have a wonderful weekend, everyone!
Barb
