News for the Week

Snow Man Wearing Black Hat Holding Brown Broom
Welcome to Winter!
Here's what's brewing this week in Administration
  • Due dates are extended to Monday to help relieve the stress of the snow event. Any items due today, Sat or Sun are now due Monday. This has been set up to automatically happen, so you don't need to be concerned about forgiving fines.
  • FOL Book Sale at NS starts tonight through Sunday. Brandi is now the staff liaison to the Friends in case you need to communicate.
  • Board meeting @NS on Tuesday at 5:30pm. The Senior Leadership Team will be in attendance to present the Strategic Plan. Staff are always welcome to attend.
  • The African American Read-In will be held at the Public Museum tomorrow beginning at 1pm. I'll be a reader representing you!
  • Big Read kickoff at Parkside this Thursday evening.
  • The marketing team from SirsiDynix spent a day with KPL, one of 3 Power Libraries Award winners,  to capture the story of the summer Kenosha Parks Alliance programs. The stories were quite moving and the love for KPL was amazing. We will receive all the footage plus a short promo film we can take to various meetings around town to show off the tremendous impact your work does in this community. I will share that with you as soon as I receive it. I'll be on stage in Atlanta in April to accept the award, alongside Baltimore and Indianapolis, the other 2 Power Libraries Award winners.
  • The KPL Foundation is planning the next Gala at Simmons on September 8th. We'll use the Great Gatsby theme for a second year and fund raise for the new bookmobiles.
And finally, I want you all to know that KPL is committed to being a family friendly library, not just for our visiting patrons, but for our staff. I remember well the panic I felt as a single parent when school was cancelled or my children were ill and I was expected to be at work. That pull in two directions is really stressful and people who are committed to both their work and their family can deal with a lot of guilt when they need to choose one over the other. Please know that we care about you not just as an employee but as a person. Make the best choice for you and we will support you every way we can.
Happy Friday!
Barb
